Managing Human Resources Top Trucking Company

Question: Discuss about the Managing Human Resources for Top Trucking Company. Answer: Introduction: The report is based on the condition of workplace of a truck company in Wallagong, Australia named Top Trucking Company. The business was initially owned by a family. The family was ready to spend money on buying new trucks. The major problems in the company were regarding managerial issues. The former manager of the company was a strict person. He liked to give orders to the employees about what to do and what not to do. The truck drivers were unhappy with the situation. There were also some inefficient drivers who caused a lot of accidents, conflicts and stoppages. A few days later, the family who owned the truck company sold the company to a national transport group. The new transport group took some reform methods to improve the condition of the business. They spend a lot of money and bought a new computer system and cleaned the yard. The truck drivers were given new uniforms. The old manager got retired and a new manager was appointed in his place. The new manager proved himself to be efficient in solving problems among the truck drivers. The new manager at first listen to the problems faced by the truck and then solves their problems. He was not a dictator like the previous manager. The inefficient drivers also left the organization due to some reasons. There was an union delegate in the company named George Parsos .He was efficient as a leader of the truck drivers. With his effort and the effort of the new manager the disputes and labor problem in the company was solved. The company began to receive new orders and there has been an increas e in profits of the company. This was the whole scenario of the problem faced by the Top Trucking Company. Discussion: The case study depicts three major points where the company has made a change The appointment of a new manager The spending of money by the company for buying uniform and cleaning the yard and computer system. The leaving of the truck drivers who proved themselves to be efficient. How do the new workplace practices introduced by manager complement one another In this case study three major places have to be studied where the company could face problems if an alteration is made. The first question is how the new workplace practices do introduced by the new manager complement one another. The new manger used to talk to the representatives of the drivers in order to know about the problems faced by the truck drivers. Before that, there has been a manager in the company under whose reign, the company suffered a losses due to ethical issues. The truck drivers were not satisfied with the dictatorship of the old manager. The old manager did not look at the problems faced by the drivers carefully. He liked to give orders to his fellow staffs. These made the truck drivers extremely unsatisfied with the management and the owner of the company. After the retirement of the old manager, the new manager was efficient in managing the work force. There union delegate George Parses was able to manage the workforce problems by consulting with the manager. The new manager at first looked into the problems at first. Then he tried to solve the issues by discussing the problems with the truck drivers. This is an example of ethical human resources management (Carroll Buchholtz, 2014). Ethical human resource management refers to maintenance of legal and industrial law, law of employment (Renwick, Redman Maguire, 2013). The legal officer is responsible for managing the issues that maintains a good relationship between the employees and the employers (Weiss, 2014). Maintenance of social and organizational culture also falls under ethical human resource management (Hendry, 2012). This has increased the willingness to work among the employees. This is also an example of ethical management(Frederickson Ghere, 2013). The new manager of the company also discussed issues regarding the problems faced by truck drivers and tried to solve them. The profit and prosperity of the company were also discussed to the truck drivers by the managers. This has encouraged the truck drivers to work for well being of the company. This is an example of proper management of ethical issues (Wilkins Warren, 2013). Ethical issues refer to the ideals and ethics of the company regardless of the profits of the company. A company should take care of its employees in a ethical way. The problems that were often faced by the laborers in any company are high pressure of work, rude behavior of the employers and managerial staffs, poor salary and late payment of wages (Alfes et al., 2013). This decreases the willingness of the laborers to work. Proper management of business ethics will enable the truck drivers to work with willingness. In this case the news of growth and prosperity of the business as shared by the manager has ena bled the workforce to understand the value of their hard work (Stewart, 2015). The prosperity of the company also creates a thinking among the workers that if they work hard they would be able to stay in the company for more days. They dont have to go and hunt for jobs elsewhere. This also in other way solves the problem of unemployment (Kehoe Wright, 2013). Fig 1: Steps Followed By The Manager In Strategic Management The risks sustaining to the changes if either of George or the new manager moves on The roles of the Union delegate George Parsos and the manager of the company has complemented each other. Both of them are responsible for managing the truck drivers efficiently. The dispute, quarrels among the truck drivers has been totally stopped. The improvement of the company is mainly due to the efforts of the manager. The well mannered behavior of the manager, his duty to take care of his employees is mainly responsible for the well being of the employee. If the manager of the company has left the job then this would create a trouble and dispute among the workers. The problems and troubles faced by the workers will not be taken care of. Again if the union delegate George has left the job, then there will be problem among the worker. George is the one with whom the messages about the condition of the laborers reach the managers. So both George and the new manager of the company are responsible for maintaining a good work environment in the company. The improvement of the firm h as also led the union delegate George think that the new manager will be posted to the head office (Deakin, Malmberg Sarkar,2014). Role of Blue collar union like transport worker union in workplace activity to bring out changes as compared to public or service sector unions The union of laborer or workers engaged in a factory or company like Transport Corporation Union is referred to as Blue collared union (Haas Hwang, 2013). The public or service sector unions are formed to look after the interest of the laborers and workers (Wilson Maume, 2014). The tough Blue collar unions are more effective in making out change in workplace activity (Roles Stewart, 2012). One of the incidents has happened in America during the rule of Franklin Roosevelt. The blue collar union were formed by the black workers who had a common aim and objective and were different from the white people (Buchholtz Carroll, 2012). Their protest had led to the decrease of labor force. In this case also the change of workplace activity has been caused by Blue collared union (Bratton Gold, 2012). The new manager was able to meet the demands of the members. The work of the union delegate and the manager has able to remove differences among the workers and the managers. Recommendations: This case study suggests that certain changes brought about in the truck company has greatly improved the condition of the truck company .Further changes has to be made regarding some issues in order to improve the financial condition. After the truck company was being purchased by a nationalized transport group a lot of changes have been brought about in the company. Use of new technology and the employment of new managers have solved the strategic human resource problems. The workers are more interested to work than it was in previous days. The clean yard and new uniform has created a sense of tidiness and a sense of duty among the workers. All these measures have improved the condition of the business to a great extent. The company is now operating as one of the top company in Wellingong. The new practices that has led to the improvement of business should be continued. The manager and owners of the company should be more lenient towards the workers. The manager should behave in a friendly manner with the truck drivers. This would help to remove the problems of social inequality. Besides, no such practices should be encouraged in the company that would increase racism create difference among the laborers. The company should make rules for the workers regarding maintenance of cleanliness in the yard, wearing proper uniform during duty etc. Conclusion: After the alteration that has been made in the firm, there has been a rapid growth in business. The Top Trucking Company has received many new contracts. The company now tops in Wallangong. The company is getting visit from the supervisors of the head offices. There has been a lot of improvement in the firm due to proper management of human resource. The worker manager relation is the main factor behind it. If new technologies are further introduced in the company, like new and improved trucks, machineries, computer and internet facilities then the condition of the company can further be improved.
